Hippo

So my mom has managed a week in India without befriending amoebas, babas or altitude sickness. I think she’s getting into it.

It’s strange that since she arrived here things seem to have become the hippiest they have been since I have been in India. The other night we went to an evening of mantras and the whole jamming team was there. It was organised by a well-meaning (and vain) Israeli man in this big room. The first half an hour was spent walking around the room being with ourselves and then we had to slow down and find a partner to sit with. Perhaps it is the faithful lover (or gay) in me that managed not to sit beside one of the beautiful ladies in the room but instead some friendly grinning guy. We were then instructed to sit in meditation position, very still, facing each other with a candle between us and basically stare into each others eyes for the duration. It’s amazing what happens to your vision when you do this. And by the end, my eyes were streaming they were so dry. But it was a nice release.

And then we all sat in a big circle and sang mantras led by the Israeli guy. It was a lot of fun and the djembe drum that I’d bought that day came in very handy.

Yeah, I have a drum. Not quite sure how exactly I will get it home, but I will think about that later.

Now I must find mother and go do some tourism.
