A legal alien

Well, Goa is a bit of a weird one. While there is some staggeringly beautiful scenery to enjoy, there is also a rather unsavoury truth to deal with. There are shit loads of English tourists here. Loads. It’s depressing. I forget how annoying English people are.

Last night was nice. I went down to another open mic thing, and on arrival at this enormous space with a large stage, full PA and bar, there was about twenty people sitting around watching some guy nervously yet persistently plodding out some covers. I managed to persuade the guy to let me play - I was fairly convinced people were going to leave pretty soon if something didn’t change. So I got up, boshed out some classics and a couple of originals and started having some rather entertaining banter with a very drunk American woman who at one point came onto the stage and told me that she was enjoying herself, and that maybe I play “two or three more songs.”

I ended up playing for, in total, about hour and a half, almost entirely accompanied by the trusty German guy, France, on djembe. It was good fun and was certainly the longest I’ve spent actually on stage singing and playing guitar. A special moment came when I was half way through Nick Drake’s 'Riverman' and another Jesus impersonator (there are loads in India) called Matthew just got up and started accompanying on sax. It was lovely.

I was enjoying the inbetween song chat just as much as the playing of songs. I guess those depressing, sweaty gigs in the Chillingham Arms paid off.

Anyway, the computers here are really annoyingly slow. It’s taken me about an hour to get anything done. I stuck a couple more pics on my MSN spaces thingy – just a few I got from Gili and co.

I was looking at flights to Bangkok today and getting ideas…

It's Christmas soon isn't it. I wouldn't think so...
