Just watching Glastonbury footage on here (currently PJ Harvey). I do wish I was there. And yes, I did try to get tickets, it's just clear that too many people wanted to go this year (can we blame Oasis and Paul McCartney outright? Yes) and I was one of the unlucky ones.
I'm off to Leeds Weekend instead. Which, from experience is nothing like it. Instead of peaceful hippy types smoking doob and living in tipis, unaware that there even is a main stage, Leeds is characterised more by aggressive cider-swilling goth youths who have travelled to see whoever the fuck is headlining this year(?)
Oh well. Should be a laff. Stereolab are playing apparently. While I'm on the subject, I am beginning to think Stereolab are an odd bunch. Aside from the fact that they bitch out albums at an alarming rate, most of which sound disturbingly similar, they managed to lose a founding member in a bicycle accident (I wore black that day, no really) and still bitch out another one the next year, with just a quick note to 'Marge' on the sleeve. Now I'm not suggesting that they do a Feeder on us and release their album "Mary, we take comfort in 'Lab" a year to the day after she died, with coinciding public displays of weeping. BUT, you wouldn't berate them for taking a break. Having a holiday. Maybe going off to make an indepedent French/English art film about the importance of road safety.
Ok, sorry. I go to far. Good on them. They are mature, they are experienced, they are prolific. Perhaps stopping and taking a break would be the worst thing for them as they might dwell on their loss. They may hit a creative wall. I'm still looking forward to seeing them.
Who knows what I'm talking about. Again, I take comfort in the fact that no one reads this, and can chuckle at the thought of anyone trudging through this.
